Caterwaul isn't a site that relies on stats, levels and ooc meandering to forward the roleplay. It's a written based forum; meaning it's all about the writing.
You have to approach this little thought experiment as if its occurring in a real world situation. Levels and coin flips will not win you battles here. It comes down to experience, creativity and logic. For example, in the games, you could attack a spine covered opponent and not loose more then a few hit points, right? Well, do it here and those few hit points turn into stab wounds. The terrain will help or hinder your fights. Environmental factors come into play. You write out everything. Every attack, every hit, every dodge. Every action and reaction is at your fingers. You aren't just pushing A and B anymore.
Probably the most curious thing is how trainers from Kwaidan region battle. They do not stand on the sidelines, out of harms way, shouting orders, maybe dodging some debris now and then. They are in the line of fire at all times. Sometimes they even fight. For those of you who know Pokemon Special, this is a familiar concept. For everyone else, the battles might seem a little more brutal then you're used to from watching the show. Pokemon will get hurt. Trainers will get hurt. That's just how it is in this region. Your characters, if they arrive from outside areas like Kanto or Johoto, may find it a little jarring. Your opponent's pokemon might even attack your trainer character directly, or try to.
If this all sounds intimidating, take a step back for a second. I want to stress that the forum is not set up to mimic the same environment as the video games. It's not just about winning all the badges and taking on the league, even if that's a common goal. Characters will bring this place into life. Characters interacting with other characters, be it pokemon, trainers, villains or heroes. The characters will face good, evil and everything in between. The goal here at Caterwaul is to witness the growth in character development and watch those characters evolve past game sprites on a gameboy.
We're all in the middle of a story, and you are helping to write it. How it pans out is completely up to you.
